There are no molds and no shortcuts — only the measured rhythm of true craftsmanship. Working with dense, mineral-rich clay gathered from historic quarries around the Medina, the maalem (master craftsman) guides a simple ball of earth into form on the potter’s wheel.
Once shaped, the basin is left to dry slowly under open Moroccan air before its first firing, a stage that strengthens the raw clay and prepares it for decoration. The surface is then hand-painted with traditional motifs, each line applied with calm precision and a practiced eye.
